The law is on your side
In the US, the TAKE IT DOWN Act makes publishing non-consensual intimate images a federal crime, including AI-generated "digital forgeries", and requires covered platforms to remove them within 48 hours of a valid request.
In the UK, sharing sexually explicit deepfakes of someone without their consent is a criminal offence under the Online Safety Act, and the government has legislated to make creating them an offence too. Platforms operating in the UK have legal duties to deal with this content.
Google has a dedicated policy for removing involuntary fake explicit imagery from search results, and most major platforms ban it outright.
Why copyright still matters with deepfakes
Many deepfakes are made by editing your real photos or videos, or are posted alongside your real content. Where your original work has been used, we also send copyright takedowns. Hosts and search engines handle these through well-established processes, which gives us a second route when a site ignores non-consent reports.
Where we remove deepfakes from
- Websites and forums that host AI fakes
- Tube and video sites
- X (Twitter), Reddit, Instagram and TikTok
- Telegram channels and bots
- File hosts and image hosts
- Google and Bing search results for your name
How we handle it
- A private assessment: you show us what you have found, and only what you choose to
- We record the evidence before anything is removed, in case you want to report it to the police
- Removal requests under non-consent, platform and copyright rules
- Delisting from Google and Bing so the fakes stop showing up when people search your name
- Monitoring for re-uploads
Free support you can use too
StopNCII.org lets adults create digital fingerprints of intimate images so participating platforms can block them, without the images leaving your device. In the UK, the Revenge Porn Helpline offers free advice and support. We are happy to work alongside these services.

Start a confidential requestFrequently asked questions
Can deepfakes be removed from the internet?
In most cases, yes. Major platforms ban non-consensual explicit deepfakes, Google will delist them, and US law now requires covered platforms to remove reported intimate images within 48 hours. Sites that refuse can usually be reached through their hosting providers and removed from search results.
Is it illegal to make a deepfake of me?
Sharing sexually explicit deepfakes without consent is a crime in the UK and, under the TAKE IT DOWN Act, in the US. Laws on creating them are developing quickly in both countries. If you want to report to the police, we can help you keep the evidence you need.
Do I have to send you the images?
No. Links to where the content appears are enough for us to start. You only share what you are comfortable sharing.
Can you find deepfakes I do not know about?
Yes. As part of a managed plan we search for content that uses your name and likeness, including AI fakes, and add new finds to the removal process.
Is this confidential?
Yes. Every case is handled privately by a small team, and we never share what we find with anyone except the platforms we are asking to remove it.
